Events

Socialising and Networking Events.

We're planning some further events for parents, guardians and anyone wishing to find out more about Young Discoverers, as an opportunity to meet and socialise with others. Would you be interested in a chocolate evening, pampering session, wine tasting, or anything else? We welcome your suggestions, and will provide more dates for events in due course.

First Birthday Celebrations

We enjoyed celbrating our first birthday with a fabulous charity ball in May.  With our theme of the Oscars, the red carpet was rolled out, and a fabulous time had by all! We also managed to raise nearly £1500.  Half of the funds raised went to the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) Support Group at York District Hospital, and the rest was spent on improvements to our garden area.  Plans are now underway for our next event near to Christmas, so watch this space!

Events and Additional Services for Children.

Would your child benefit from some additional maths, english or science tutoring. We are able to bring private tutors into the setting for small group sessions where this would be appropriate. In addition, would your child be interested in learning a musical instrument? We are also considering small group sessions for budding musicians. These sessions would attract an additional cost.

Nursery trip to the seaside.  We plan to take all of our children on a day out at the end of August, and are currently arranging all the finer details.  Parents are also welcome to come along, and join us for what promises to be a lovely day out.

Educational Events and focus on the EYFS

Plans are underway for us to hold a series of parents evening to focus on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which is the government framework for education which we follow, and how we apply this at Young Discoverers.   We can give you a more thorough perspective on the work that we are doing with your child, and how we track their development and learning.  Our aim is to work in partnership with parents to provide children with the very best pre school start.  We will show you how steps at home can influence their development, and how we can all contribute to learning, and the development folders that we keep and track for your child.  Further information is to follow, however please do ask any one of us if you need any information on the EYFS principles, and if you would like any detail on the work we are doing with your child.

Holiday Club

We have had some fantastic times with Holiday Club over the past year, and the next holidays  over the summer ( 26th July - 1st September) are set to be no exception. We're delighted to be able to offer this fantastic service again from the nursery premises, and are once again able to offer a fun packed preogramme with a different event each and every day.  Our holiday club sessions will operate between 7.30am and 6.15pm, at a cost of £36 per session.  Each session price includes breakfast, a full cooked lunch, and we will also offer a tea with healthy snacks during the day.  The costs of any trips out including transport and admissions are also included in the price.  Our full programme is detailed on our news page.   Please contact Heather at the Before and After School Club to make a booking.

Nursery Events

For Mini Discoverers and First Discoverers we will also include the occasional baby signing sessions, and some movement/music sessions from trained experts. We are also able to include some of our older children in some of the trips we will be undertaking with Holiday Club.  Again, these events will be included in the price.
